reflection

Image
June 11th, 2017 Writing up these media blogs, have really made me reflect on the way I see and use media. I still continue to use the same amount of media but now I am completely aware of it. I spend a lot of my day on media, specifically social media websites like Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Because I use media so much throughout my day, it makes me a lot more aware of what advertisers do to our minds. Recently on Snapchat, advertisers have put more ads on this social media app. Before, there were absolutely no ads but as I watch someone's story on it, ads for other apps begin to pop up. When I'm scrolling through my feed on Instagram, I notice how sneaky advertisers are. They put normal pictures on my feed that makes it look like I am following this person which causes me to actually like the photo and unknowingly read the description about this product. Also, on YouTube, there's almost an ad for a product before every video I watch. I never realized how ...

"Is Life Woth Living, Should I Blast Myself?"-Tupac

Image
June 7th, 2017 Tupac is one of the biggest rappers of all time with selling over 75 million worldwide albums all at the age of 25 and even more when he died. Personally, he is my favorite rapper because not only did I grow up listening to him, but unlike a lot of rappers now of days, his songs told a story. Above I inserted a part of my favorite song of mine from him called, "Changes." Unfortunately, I was not able to upload the "Changes" video because it would not allow me to, but here is a small snippet of part of the lyrics. This song talks about racism and that the only way we can change it is if we as people come together and change everything we do. It's sad to think that racism was such a big problem that dated back hundreds of years ago and still today it is still happening. Tupac wrote songs to inform people and unlike a lot of rap today, he didn't just yell curse words in the microphone. The song that I inserted above is called, "Dear Mam...

We Can Do It

Image
June 7th, 2017 This iconic WWII propaganda poster was made to inspire Americans to boost the worker's morals. The person who created this poster, J. Howard Miller, really depicted that workers "can do it." It shows a woman flexing her arm which illustrates her power. Women weren't seen as the most powerful people at the time during WWII so with the main focus as a woman trying to be seen as strong, it really shows us the point of the image. Women are supposed to be seen as powerless and weak so with this poster, it shows that if a woman can do it, then anyone can do it. During this time when it came out, 1943, there weren't anyways to advertise through media. In fact, the only way to advertise through media was through a radio because the first TV only came out during 1944 and of course Instagram, Twitter, and any other social media was not around yet. Because of this, the most common form of advertisement was through posters that were hung around towns. The wo...

MissRepresentation

Image
May 28th, 2017 MissRepresentation was an eye-opening documentary that really taught me so much more about how the world sees women. If you're not a size 0, a woman that wears makeup, or someone that is overall seen as "beautiful" in the eyes of men, you're probably not pretty. Women are self-objected to the society of men, and they are the ones that define what beauty is. Because of what men think what "beauty" is, 65% of women have disorders of some type so that they can please our society and the eyes of men. I found this statistic so jaw-dropping because of the fact that women care so  much about what others see them as. They begin to starve themselves and do whatever it takes to be seen as "beautiful." The song "Scars to Your Beautiful," by Alessia Cara is a perfect present day song that describes how women are. This pop singer realizes the problems girls go through so that they can look the Covergirls models. She creates this so...

Merchants of Cool

Image
May 23rd, 2017 Throughout our society, we as teens are constantly exposed to what is trendy and what is new. A lot of us often keep up with the current trends because we want to fit in with the crowd and be perceived as "cool." Our current teen market is what is known as "pop." Just like a decade ago, "pop" was related to sex and violence. In our society, the "pop" hasn't really changed because when we look around us to see what is cool and trendy, it tends to be related to violence and sex. Some of our favorite women celebrities like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez are all completely different when it comes to their voices and what they look like. However, they all have one thing in common-see appeal. Whether it's what they are wearing or what they are singing about, it al relates back to sex. Their clothing at red carpet events is very scandalous to where their outfits go from being see through to almost not wearing an...

Is Online Dating More Beneficial?

Image
May 12th, 2017 Within the past few years, online dating has become more of the norm in our society. A few years ago when sites like Tinder were first being introduced, they were very out of the ordinary and a lot of people were very skeptical of them. However, as our society continues to advance with social media and other technological advances, it's not as out of the ordinary as it used to be and in fact it is actually pretty common to online date. But I have always wondered, does online dating really work? Is it really more beneficial to make a profile about yourself in hopes that someone clicks on it and find you with taking the chances that this person could not be real? According to The Telegraph UK , the whole concept of online dating, is more likely to last than "regular dating." The simple fact is that people like online dating because it gives them a chance to be who they want to be behind a computer or phone screen. They don't have to hold back who they ...

Madison and Vine

Image
May 7th, 2017 Madison and vine is a technique companies use to place products in movies, tv shows, etc and get their brand out without being too out there. When I was thinking about a movie or tv series that randomly places companies or products in them a lot, I immediately thought about the controversy the Man of Steel brought a few years ago when it was released. Many people said that there was too much product placement within the movie and it completely distracted the viewers of the actual plot line. Excessive product placement is a bad thing, but it could also be a good thing. With everyone talking about how much this movie was sponsored, it brought a lot of attention to who was sponsoring this movie. This actually worked in their favor because just like this video mentioned, they made over a hundred million dollars alone before the movie was actually released just off of the companies paying them so they could get their brand out there. I couldn't find just one scene from ...

You're Gonna Miss This- Trade Adkins

Image
May 7th, 2017 As the end of our sophomore year approaches us, we are soon going to enter our junior year. During our junior year, it is time to get more serious about what we want to do after high school. It's the time where we decide on narrowing down what colleges we want to go to or what careers we are interested in. Trace Adkins repeatedly says how we are going to miss this. He talks about how his daughter is growing up too fast and she should slow down because before she knows it, she is going to miss the life she had. It's crazy to think that just a few years ago, we were all in 6th grade. And now in two years, we are going to be starting our lives after we walk the stage for graduation. Just like the song says, "You're gonna miss this, you're gonna want this back, you're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast..." High school is a short time in our life and it is also seen as the best time or our lives, but it is already almost half ways...

Meanwhile Back at Mammas- Tim McGraw

Image
April 30th 2017 Tim McGraw has always been one of my favorite singers not only because of his voice but also because of his songs. All of his songs have meaning behind them and especially this song. This song sticks out to me the most and it is especially one of my favorites by him. It tells a little story that almost everyone can relate to. This song is about a small town family that is doing what they do everyday, having a family dinner and spending time together. The song is so simple and that is why I love it. It means so much to me where that every time I listen to the song, I always think about my family. In my house, I am the only child living at home. My brother and sister have started their own family and don't live with my parents and me anhmkre but they still leave very close by. When the song talks about "meanwhile back at mama's," it just always reminds me of my happy place. I don't think of it much when my sister or brother com...

Trump in 100 Days

Image
April 30th, 2017 http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/29/politics/trump-world-leaders-image-100-days/index.html http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/president-trump-100-days-honeymoon-regrets-poll/story?id=46943338 The world has viewed Trump in the last 100 days as though he has done nothing to help the global problems taking place and especially within the last few weeks, he has caused more problems throughout the world. In the first article written by CNN, it goes into the very specifics of how certain countries viewed Trump's first 100 days. Because the authors of the article gave thirteen different countries points of view, I wouldn't say that it had  much vagueness. However, there are still a few parts that can be more specific like when they talk about how H.R. McCaster "has hired a very bright woman to write the U.S. National Security Strategy" because "it's a tough job." This part is very vague to where the article authors did not elaborate at all abou...

My current realtionship with media

Image
April 24th, 2017 I would be lying if I said that I spend very little time on social media. It really has impacted my life to where when I wake up, I go on it, before I go to bed, I'm on it, and at any other time throughout the day, I am usually on it. I use Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter the most out of every social media website. They allow me to keep in touch with my friends and see what they are doing and for them to see what I am doing. I would say that because I spend so much time on it, in a way it has helped me become even closer with my friends. Social media makes it a lot easier for me to talk to my friends everyday when I am not at school, when they aren't at school, and just outside of school in general. I am able to talk to them a lot more at school because a lot of the people I don't see everyday because I don't have classes with every one of my friends. It has even allowed me to make new friends that usually go to our school. If it wasn't ...
